How To Get Rid Of Your Creepy Crawly Spider Veins This Halloween

Decking out your front porch with ghosts, skeletons, cobwebs, pumpkins, and spiders is a great way to spook your neighbors. But when you have veins on your legs that look like the fake spider webs on your porch, then things suddenly turn a little creepy.

It’s estimated that in between 30-60% of adults have either varicose veins or spider veins which means that they aren’t exactly rare. Spider veins are long, thin purple veins that look like spider webs and are typically present on the legs and face. However, they can appear almost anywhere on the body including the arms and stomach. Even though spider veins don’t necessarily pose a huge health risk, they can be painful and cause a lot of itching, burning, and make you feel really self-conscious.

Here at our office, Dr. Dunkley uses either injections or laser to treat spider veins. During your initial consultation, Dr. Dunkley will help determine what treatment may be better for you and your specific condition.

  • Injections: Injections use a fluid (typically saline) to destroy the veins. However, because this treatment requires the substance to be inside the spider veins, it’s not always effective and may require multiple treatments.
  • Laser: Laser uses heat to damage and destroy superficial veins. Since lasers use heat, however, they can burn the skin which means that we have to limit the time use and it may require multiple sessions.
